Kwa-Zulu Natal

KwaZulu-Natal, also known as the Zulu Kingdom, expands from the Mozambique and Swaziland borders in the north all the way to the Mtamvuna River in the south, protected by the majestic Drakensberg escarpment in the west, and washed by the warm Indian Ocean in the east. The province's subtropical climate allows visitors to enjoy this paradise on earth to the full extent.

Vasco da Gama, the first European to see the coast of Natal on Christmas Day in 1947, gave rise to the original name for the region - Natal. Its territory was once part of a short-lived Boer republic before it was annexed by Britain in 1843.

Today, the province offers a kaleidoscope of attractions in all its nine tourism regions, starting at the Durban harbour - South Africa's seaside playground – and extending to the Battlefields, where Shaka, Churchill, Gandhi and General Botha left their footprints, all the way to a most diverse coastline from the South Coast to the Elephant Coast, the meandering Midlands, the majestic Drakensberg range and Zululand.
